Over at quake.xsreality.com dz.Nogame talks about The Return of Quake2 in his [Column: The Return of Quake2] ... there are over 100 replies on the column and are a good read also :)

Here are some snippets from dz.Nogame:

'The Quake 2 community is growing at a rapid pace. More and more servers are sprouting up, and many clans are starting to form. A few new ladders are growing in popularity and it is not uncommon to see sponsored tournaments within the community.'

'I've seen many players come back from Q3, and many 'famous' names popping up on servers as well as IRC...'

'New multiplayer games hit the shelves on daily basis and many fail to survive their own network code (cough tribes2 cough).'

Here are some snippets from the replies:

'there's a general mentality that one has to 'upgrade', or get with the newest game. But only after having played the 'other games' can we really see just what ID did with the first two Quakes.'

'the reason QW and Q2 were so fun to play is because of all the imbalances that were created by building the single player game before the multiplayer version. Now, all the weapons in games are tooooo well balanced...'

Q3CTF Dying ? - by |Ebola|
Recently clan E (3 times Savage Champs, 1 time ClanBase Cup Champs) retired from Q3CTF after playing their last game in the ClanBase Cup (defeated by IQS in semi-final)... Savage Midweek Tournament-2 Champs Cx announced on their website they stop CTF at the end of the Barrysworld Season...

Lots of clans also dropped from the current Barrysworld season:

Division1: MEX folded after 5 weeks... 7CS removed after 6 weeks due to defaulting...
Division2: RaW left league after 2 weeks due to folding... n2s removed due to defaulting after 8 weeks...
Division3a: SPANKY withdrawn from league after 7 weeks... ELF & DDT withdrawn from league after 2 weeks due to folding...
Division3b: XTC & $ withdrawn from league after 2 weeks due to defaulting... 5Q withdrew from league after 5 weeks...
Division4a: NJ folded after 4 weeks...
Division4b: NS withdrawn from the league after 3 weeks... DP & b0k removed after 6 weeks due to defaulting... ELF removed after 7 weeks due to folding... lover removed after 8 weeks due to defaulting...

The Q2CTF ladder is freezed until further notice - by Murvel @ ChampionsLeague.org
Since we have experienced both bugs and human mistakes recently, the ladder is beeing put on rest until we have solved these problems. I hope that you can understand that we want to fix this as soon as possible instead of hoping that things turn out okey later on. Because we know that it wouldn't :).
