Official DCB statement, 19th October 1999

DCB proxy is a proxy tool, which was programmed by DCB-SuperCow, writer of 3team CTF mod for quake2. When VSE got known, DCB-SuperCow started to write his own proxy tool. VSE changes the quake2.exe, the DCB proxy does not. The program is actually very small, about 120k.

Some features:
- Quad timing, more precise is not possible. A dropped enemy quad and pickup again by a team mate will start a new timer
with exactly the amount of time left until it respawns.
- Team info, It will display a team info list on the left with each member’s status, Health, armor, powershield and tech.
- Each player can use a bind key to display a short message below his status. E.g. ‘I’m in position’ etc.
- Base status can be changed by a message
- Enemy and friendly FC routes can be displayed by a binding a command with a message. (This is not automatically)
- Personal timing. A say_team command for adding own timers on the HUD.
- Warmode. This enables team status HUD.

During the Clanbase Heaven LAN, DCB talked about the proxy. DCB decided to come out that we got and use this tool. The main problem is that this proxy can’t be used on public servers, well not the current version. It actually sends at least every 10 seconds a status say_team message. This is why this proxy only works on CTF mods or other mods that will display the %A for armor and %T for tech. Health is taken from the information on the players HUD.

For now we state that the DCB proxy will be released to the public within a few weeks. We don’t know if we will remove the quad timing, we will decide later on.

DCB thinks that using this proxy isn’t cheating and uses normal say_team messages to update status of players. However, team players that have no proxy will see the say_team messages created by the proxy. Proxy users will never see these messages because the proxy will intercept these. There will be a command that enables non-proxy users to turn off the proxy’s warmode on all proxy users in the same team. The proxy will not send automated messages while in observer mode.
